INSIDER: FRANCE COLIGNON, FOUNDER OF COSETTE

Tell us a little bit about yourself & how you would describe your style?

“I’m Parisian living in Sydney, proud owner of a huge shoe closet and lover of yoga, champagne-fuelled girls nights and indulgent beauty treatments. As far as my style goes, I wouldn’t say I have one specific look; I much prefer dressing to suit my mood.”

How did the concept of Cosette come about?

“When I moved to Sydney from Paris, I found it frustrating that I had to wait six months for international trends to arrive in Australia. I saw a gap in the market for buyers to bring earlier access to current European designer collections. After a lot of hard work and fun, Cosette was born in late 2014.”

What does Cosette stand for?

“Authenticity of all premium goods we carry, unrivalled prices Australia-wide, and luxury every day.”

How does your online store differentiate from your in store experience?

“We aim to replicate the luxury experience across both platforms. We provide the same style tips, advices and inspiration through our website and newsletters as we do in-store. At the moment our website focuses mainly on luxury handbags, as we find these are the items our interstate customers covet the most, but we will soon offer the same clothing ranges online too.”

What are the key factors you have learnt over time to gain returning customers?

“Impeccable and personal customer service is key and ensures followers return to Cosette, plus constant new stock – people want to see something new each time they visit.”

What would be your dream collaboration for Cosette?

“Carine Roitfled – she epitomises luxe French style.”

What trends are you loving right now?

“I don’t really follow trends as I truly believe in classics, but looking ahead to summer I adore bohemian, retro hippy pieces such as decadent silk and tassel accents.”

What items do you feel are worth splurging on?

“Designer handbags, shoes, luxury cosmetics and food.

What are five staple items every woman should own?

“Good question! It’s hard to choose… I would say a good pair of non-stretched jeans, a Celine handbag, leather shorts, white romantic blouse and vertiginous designer heels. Can I have one more? A knock-out red lipstick!”

My most treasured possession is…

“A ring my grandfather designed for my grandmother – I always carry it with me.”

The piece of advice I would give my fifteen year old self is?

“It might sound corny but it is imperative to be confident and believe in yourself no matter what.”

Top five blogs you go to for daily inspiration…

“Darkplanner.com, La Revue de Kenza, Mode and the city, Fubiz, My little Paris and Gritty Pretty.”

The piece of art (or art movement) that always has inspired you…

“Impressionism. I could stay for hours in the “Musee de l’Orangerie” looking at Manet paintings.

What’s next on the horizon for Cosette?

“The opening of a flagship in Melbourne before Christmas.”
