THE DRUNK GIRL’S GUIDE TO EATING HEALTHY ON A HANGOVER

1.  JUICY TOMATOES
There is a reason why Bloody Mary’s are the key morning-after drink for those that are struggling. We suggest going ‘virgin’ and opting for the key ingredient in them, tomatoes! The reason why you feel so great after a Bloody Mary is not because of the alcohol content, but rather what the tomatoes offer to the body. They are high in vitamin C, contain glutathione (this is what helps counteract the yucky hangover toxins) and revive you like no other!

2.  GO GREEN!
Give your liver a rejuvenating do-over the morning after with a great helping of baby spinach. It’s as though spinach ward’s off the hangover symptoms with it’s richness in vitamin C, folic acid and sulphur. Your body will thank you for it!

3.  ADD A LITTLE GINGER
Feeling a little nausea from those tequila shots last night? Just add a little ginger to a fruit juice you are making. Firstly, the fruit juice will increase your blood sugar levels (that have no doubt, ahem, plummeted through the ground from your night out) with it’s natural sugars and will replace some of those electrolytes you have lost. Add apples, cranberries or take a full dose of orange juice and add a little ginger. Ginger is a powerful antioxidant that eases nausea and relieves your inflamed digestive system that feels like someone is punching your gut.

4.  OPT FOR WHOLESOME
Not sure about you, but we seem to always have that craving for carbs as soon as we are feeling under the weather! So, we suggest opting for wholegrain bread as it detoxifies B vitamins as well as essential fatty acids that allow your liver to heal! (Thank gosh, there is a positive to eating carbs…)

 

5.  MINTY FRESH!
Ahh! One of our favourite herbals – peppermint tea! Perfect in aiding your digestive system, peppermint tea relives tension, bloating and any nasties surrounding your stomach. It also speeds up the hangover detoxifying process too! Win/Win.

 

6.  HOT TO (EVENTUALLY)…TROT

7.  H20 IS ALWAYS THE GO!

That dying feeling you have the morning after is because your body is trying to tell you it is beyond dehydrated! It literally feels like it’s going to shrivel up into a prune because of it’s lack of water content. It’s a simple essential because by drinking plenty of water you will rehydrate in no time. Add a little lime too – they are a great-added ingredient to say goodbye to the hangover!
