#INSIDESCOOP: MYDOMAINE EDITOR’S, LAUREN POWELL’S ART DECO APARTMENT

What do you love about the area?

The thing I love most about living in Bondi is that it’s such an escape from the city. The MyDomaine office is in Sydney’s CBD, so it’s amazing to be able to retreat to a suburb that feels like a little beach town at the end of each day and on the weekends.

How would you describe the style of the home?

I think it is best described as feminine-meets-minimal. I have primarily decorated with neutral-hued, natural textured furnishings with small hints of colour and brass details throughout.

Do you have a favourite room in the house? And why?

My favourite room would have to be the living-meets-dining area. Not only is it filled with all of my most-loved pieces of décor, but it is completely surrounded by nature—from palms to frangipani trees—which gives the feeling of living somewhere completely tranquil and private. Coming from the country originally, it’s something that means a lot to me.

What is your favourite piece of décor?

Can I choose three?

1. Artwork: Last year, I did a shoot for MyDomaine with artists Vicki Lee and Ted O’Donnell (the creative geniuses behind Tovl) to celebrate their then new collection, Night Rain. As soon as Vicki told me that my favourite work from the collection represented “that sudden and unexpected urge of love you feel inside for someone” I knew instantly that I needed to own it.

2. Coffee table: My Dad is a carpenter by trade (and the handiest man I know) and ever since I can remember he has made furniture for me—I remember vividly the orange and purple desk complete star-shaped drawer handles he made for me when I was in primary school. I put in a request a few months ago for a coffee table and it’s exactly what I’d hope for, and more.

3. Cushion: The black-and-white cushion that lives on my couch is from the beautiful homewares store in my hometown of Narrandera called Juadine Interiors.
