Emergency Guide to Hiding the Hangover: Tips, tricks and your never-fail go-to’s…
- DRINK…(and we don’t mean Hair of The Dog remedy!)
Water is key and should be your first point of call. Need we explain?
2. DON’T SKIP BREAKIE
Ditto above. Eggs on toast with the largest cappuccino we can find are always our go-to, but we won’t judge if you choose a cheeky Bacon and Egg McMuffin instead.
3. HYDRATE YOUR SKIN
Before you do a thing, slap some hydrating moisturiser on that mug. A night of drinking wreaks havoc on your skin so this is an important step to ensure you look as fresh as possible. We love Kate Sommerville’s Nourish Daily Moisturiser ($65.00) for it’s lovely gel-like texture. It also contains anti ageing extracts, which is always a bonus in our books…
4. BASE NOTES
Choose a foundation that is dewy with a medium coverage – the dewy finish will counter act your dehydrated skin and make you look fresh, while the medium coverage will hide a multitude of sins without looking too heavy. Apply with your fingers to ensure that the foundation melts perfectly into the skin. From experience, the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation ($32.00) or the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation ($99.00) are your best bets to make you look more radiant and less “hung.”
5. CONCEAL THE EVIDENCE
Most likely your eyes will be the first part of your face to show signs of a hangover so if you have time for nothing else, start here. The best way to cover those bags is to start with a correcting concealer and then layer a highlighting concealer over the top. (And there you go, 8 hours sleep in just 2 minutes!) Our power duo is the Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector ($50.00) tapped into the under eye with your ring finger and then a healthy dose of Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Radiant Touch ($68.00) over the top. There is a reason this is a cult product. It has hidden many a hangover in its time and makes easy work of even the most severe bags.
5. LASH UP
After concealing, move onto Mascara. Hungover or not, Mascara has the power to make you look awake when sleep may have been a rare commodity for days on end. If you have an eyelash curler – this is the time to bring it out, if you have had a lash lift? You are a smart girl. After curling, apply two coats of your favourite mascara to your top lashes only. Applying mascara to your lower lashes can cast shadows and could reverse the effects of your amazing concealing job. We recommend a mascara that is volumising and adds length such as the Cover Girl Clump Crusher Extention Lash Blast Mascara ($18.95) or the Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill Excess Mascara ($57.00).
