THE DO’S & DON’TS FOR YOUR FIRST TINDER DATE

DO: MEET SOMEWHERE PUBLIC

This is somewhat of a no-brainer, but if you’re meeting a stranger for the first time, make sure it’s somewhere public in case they turn out to be a stage 5 clinger. Arrange to meet somewhere with an energetic vibe (there is nothing worse than sitting in a completely silent café where everyone else can eavesdrop on your awkward first date chat), but make sure it’s not too loud so you can hear each other properly! A cool bar is always a safe bet, and can lead to dinner somewhere nearby if you hit it off.

DON’T: GET SLOSHED!

If you want to avoid a $150 Uber cleaning fee and vomiting in the general direction of your date, I would advise you to NOT smash so many glasses of Pinot at dinner that the room starts spinning faster than Britney Spears’ career plummeted. Now we know you may be nervous and a couple of glasses of wine can help soothe those first-date jitters, but throwing up in the car ride home to your date’s place is not a good look (sorry Tinder man, it was fun while it lasted…)

DO: PLAY IT COOL!

Tinder users tend to be talking to and meeting up with lots of people at once, so don’t invest yourself too much in one person or get too excited early on. Keep it casual, take it as it comes and have fun with the process!

DON’T: TALK ABOUT YOUR EX

Yes, you may be new to Tinder after a recent breakup but talking about your ex to your date is going to make you seem like a weirdo…If your date asks you about your previous relationships the first time you meet, they are also probably a weirdo. In this situation, say something extremely vague and change the subject (“So…do you like bread?” is one of my personal favourite conversation starters).

DO: SCHEDULE SOMETHING AFTER…

I have heard from people that are good at dating (not me, in case you hadn’t gathered that already) that the best way to schedule a Tinder date is at around 5pm so you can grab a couple of drinks, then say you have dinner plans and bail if it’s going badly. A late afternoon date also leaves plenty of time to venture into the night if your date tickles your fancy.
